Our Jazz
20th Annual Dubbo Jazz Festival will be held on the 13-14-15 August, 2010 at the
Dubbo RSL Club Resort in 5 venues on one level.
As usual our Festival will feature top 24 Australian and International Jazz
Bands playing all styles of jazz over the three days and four sessions.
We normally conduct Jazz Workshops for school students/bands at the Dubbo RSL on
Friday 1pm to 3-30pm and Saturday morning 9am to 11-30am. These are
usually conducted by Jason Isaac and five other members of the Sydney Metro Big
Band and a nominal fee is charged for these to help cover costs. (No more than
$10 per student)
A Big Band Concert is held at the Dubbo RSL Club in the Auditorium on the
Saturday evening of the Festival showcasing the available School Bands and the
Western Plains Big Band made up of music teachers from the region and other
senior students.
Digital piano, professional drum kits/stands, music stands and sound equipment
are provided at venue. Drummers need only bring sticks etc, cymbals and
snare if desired. This is done to allow bands quick set up and dispatch
time.
In 2010 the NSW Regional School Bands
Festival will be held in Dubbo on the same weekend and we hope to give some of
the visiting bands further exposure and a chance to perform both at the
festival and at outdoor venues such as the Rotunda in Church Street on Saturday
morning and possibly at the Taronga Western Plains Zoo. It is envisaged that
these performances would last approximately 40 to 45 minutes including set up
and pull down time.
Members of school bands performing at the festival proper will be given
Musician Badges allowing them free admission over the weekend and an opportunity
to watch and listen to their peers in action and maybe meet and speak with some
of them.
